          'Urinetown': Gotta Go, Gotta Go To RCP’s Hilarious Musical

Imagine a drought so bad that private toilets are banned, and that citizens must pay to “go”, and imagine there are only a limited number of toilets controlled by a greedy corporation. That’s the lighthearted premise of the Tony Award-winning musical: URINETOWN that will trickle into the Roslyn High School auditorium on March 23^rd, 24^th and 25^th.

 

The Royal Crown Players production of URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL is a wild and happy mix of biting satire and loving parody. This exuberant musical nods to everything from the Three Penny Opera, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Evita, Les Misérables and Chicago!  The show makes us laugh while it explores real social issues of corporate control, corruption, environmental conservation and the growing divide between rich and poor. It also parodies those "do-gooders" who try to make societal change happen without thinking things through.

 

“Of course, you’re not supposed to like the title, that’s part of the good natured and obvious joke of the show,” says Urinetown’s director Brad Frey.  “Urinetown draws its humor from many well known Broadway musicals. Though it parodies theatre in general it also parodies life and society,” Mr. Frey adds.

 

URINETOWN features Lee Taglin as Bobby Strong, Spencer Levy as Caldwell B. Cladwell, Amanda Shechtman as Hope Cladwell, David Taub as Officer Lockstock, Johanna Weiss as Penelope Pennywise and Sara Tazari as Little Sally. The production also features Alex Goldklang (Hot Blades Harry), Alexis Shaw (Little Becky Two-Shoes), Danny Buslik (Officer Barrel), Adam Wagner (Senator Fipp), Tom Eyerman (Old Man Strong), Emily Hauser (Josephine Strong), Doug Ruchefsky (Tiny Tom) and Adam Rubin as Mr. McQueen. Abbe Goldberg (Billy Boy Bill), Elyssa Akerman (Soupy Sue), Eric Greengold (Robby the Stockfish), Lizzie Greenwald (Mrs. Millenium) and Arjun Khanna as Dr. Bileaux round out the featured performers.

 

The rest of the cast includes Samantha Azoulay (Dance Captain, Girl Cop, Poor), Melissa Lefcort, Devin Rossinsky, Gabrielle Goldstein, Michael Hofer, Hartley Abdekalimi, Ali Farber, Sami Cheirif, Rachel Korsen, Jaclyn Combs, Jennifer Feldman, Amanda Bralower, Meredith Shapiro, Mallory Levy and Amanda Czik.

 

Mr. Frey leads the creative team which includes choreography by Ashley Gur, set construction by Ron Weaver, and costumes are by Ms. Gur and Max Aboody.  Mardi Braun heads the production team. The lighting design is by technical director Andrew Imperato assisted by Amy Halpern and the stage manager is Emily Zahn with Melanie Beatus as her assistant.  Set decoration is headed by Erika Kolb. Stephanie Lestz is the costume chief. The business manager is Michael Hofer. Madye Berger is the set construction crew chief. The sound design is by Doug Rowand with assistance by Alex Kassimir and Keri Murtagh.

 

Urinetown will be performed on Thursday, March 23rd at 3:30 PM; Friday, March 24th at 7:30 PM; and two shows on Saturday, March 25th at 2:00 and 7:30 PM.  All performances take place in the Roslyn High School Auditorium.                                                      What is RCP?

      The Royal Crown Players of Roslyn High School have been in existence since the beginning days of the school. The organization has always prided itself on the professionalism of its productions. It has showcased the finest talent in the Roslyn community and fostered an appreciation for the theatre. Past productions have ranged from Shakespeare to original musical presentations.

      An inclusive family, RCP has members not only on stage, but backstage as well, with the creative energies of set construction, choreography, lighting, sound, properties, scenic design, costuming, and make-up. Our business staff publishes two playbills a year and specializes in graphic arts. Our box office staff creates and manages a computerized ticket system, while our computer staff maintains all of our computers.

      RCP is a “real life” activity, from the nurturing of a script and score to the presentation of an opening night performance. The culmination of different students and talents with unselfish attitudes and the same creative aim, for your enjoyment, appreciation, and love for the theatre, we are the Royal Crown Players.
