One of the liveliest musicals to hit the silver screen will rock the live stage when the Royal Crown Players premiere the musical “Footloose” from March 18^th through the 20^th at Roslyn High School.

 

In “Footloose” all dancing is banned in small Texas town of Beaumont. But this is set to change when a charismatic city boy, Ren, arrives from Chicago. He rebels, organizing a dance with fellow High School friends and soon has the whole town on its feet. Based on the 1980's movie starring Kevin Bacon, this fast-paced musical features a young and energetic cast. Packed with fantastic dancing and unforgettable 80's anthems: Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let's Hear It For the Boy and of course the title track Footloose which went from gold to platinum to multi-platinum in record time.

 

Ren played by Andrew Werner finds himself at odds with the repressive atmosphere and with the town minister, the Rev. Shaw Moore (Michael Taub).  Because of an accident that killed several teens traveling home from a dance, the town has passed a law that outlaws dancing.  As Ren falls in love with the minister’s daughter Ariel (Arielle Ditkowich), Ren rallies the other teens to challenge Rev. Moore.  In the end, Ren uses quotes from the Bible to make his case and forces the minister to do some soul searching of his own.  The show ends as Beaumont gets ready for its first school dance in five years.

 

Vi Moore (Melissa Shapiro) is the minister’s wife and Christina Combs portrays Ren’s mother.

Other leading roles are: Jonathan Yehuda as “Willard,” Jonathan Zacherman as “Chuck Cranston,” Avian Haviv as “Rusty,” Lisa Goldberg as “Urleen,” and Emily Hauser as “Wendy Jo”.

 

 Other roles include: Lee Taglin as “Jeter,” Sacha Roubeni as “Bickle,” Ian Goldberg as “Garvin,” Max Aboody as “Lyle,” and Jared Chester as “Travis.”  “Wes Warnicker” and “Lulu Warnicker” will be played by David Burros and Johanna Weiss.  “Coach Dunbar” and “Eleanor Dunbar” will be played by Rusty Dreksler and Robin Zelman.   Madye Berger is “Betty Blast” and Nikki Nussbaum is “Irene.”   Eric Niederman has the role of “Principal Clark” and Shana Ditkowich plays the police officer.

“Footloose” is co directed by Danny Amy and Jennifer Buonomo.  The Musical Director and Producer is club advisor Brad Frey.  Choreography is by Jennifer Buonomo and costumes are by Joseph Hoffman.  Set design and construction is by Danny Amy and technical direction is by William Cusick.  The stage manager is Emily Niesenbaum assisted by Emily Zahn.   The business managers are Jessica Cohen and Michael Hofer.  Julio Arango is the set construction crew chief with Eric Feinstein. Alex Mand heads the lighting crew with Andrew Imperato, Daniel Moskovitz and Eric Appleman. The sound design is by Doug Rowand with Zach Unger as chief and assisted by Eric Lippe.

 

“Footloose” will be performed on Thursday, March 18th at 3:30 PM; Friday, March 19th at 8:00 PM; and Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 and 8:00 PM.  All performances take place in the Roslyn High School Auditorium. What is RCP?

      The Royal Crown Players of Roslyn High School have been in existence since the beginning days of the school. The organization has always prided itself on the professionalism of its productions. It has showcased the finest talent in the Roslyn community and fostered an appreciation for the theatre. Past productions have ranged from Shakespeare to original musical presentations.

      An inclusive family, RCP has members not only on stage, but backstage as well, with the creative energies of set construction, choreography, lighting, sound, properties, scenic design, costuming, and make-up. Our business staff publishes two playbills a year and specializes in graphic arts. Our box office staff creates and manages a computerized ticket system, while our computer staff maintains all of our computers.

      RCP is a “real life” activity, from the nurturing of a script and score to the presentation of an opening night performance. The culmination of different students and talents with unselfish attitudes and the same creative aim, for your enjoyment, appreciation, and love for the theatre, we are the Royal Crown Players.
